2010 ford expedition review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A standard among full-size suvs. introductionthe ford expedition is a full-size sport-utility vehicle. It seats up to eight people, hauls a mountain of gear, and tows moderately heavy trailers. The second- and third-row seats fold flat to create a useful rear cargo area. That's nice on long drives.  changes for 2010 are minimal. There is the mykey programmable vehicle key, the availability of the sync voice-activated communications and entertainment system, three new colors, and trailer sway control is standard. Expedition was last redesigned for 2007.  with its combination of utility, a smooth, stable ride and a pleasant interior, the ford expedition is a fine choice for families that tow or take driving vacations.  the ford expedition comes in two lengths, the standard model with a 119-inch wheelbase, and the expedition el with its 131-inch wheelbase. Every expedition is powered by a single-overhead-cam 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. A leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, front and rear air conditioning with rear controls, remote keyless entry, automatic headlights, alarm, an am/fm/cd stereo with mp3 player connectivity and rear controls, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, overhead console, and illuminated visors are also part of the package. Exterior standard equipment features 265/70r17 tires on alloy wheels, running boards, roof rails, fog lights, power-adjustable heated outside mirrors, a rear liftgate with flip-up glass and a rear defroster/wiper/washer system, and a keyless entry keypad.  the expedition xlt el 38,610) and xlt el 4wd 41,510) are equipped the same as standard wheelbase versions, except they come with a split-folding third-row seat and a conversation mirror.  options for xlt models include third-row bench seat 875) or power-operated third-row bench seat 1,370), leather captain's chairs 1,295), a heavy-duty towing package 395), sirius satellite radio 195), rear-seat entertainment 1,295), and a power moonroof 995). A convenience package 895) includes a reverse-sensing system, power rear quarter windows, universal garage-door opener, six-disc cd changer, and power-adjustable pedals.  the expedition eddie bauer 40,890) and eddie bauer 4wd 43,790) are trimmed as outdoor adventure vehicles and are distinguished by a longer list of convenience features as standard equipment, notably the expedition's unique power-folding split third-row seat. Other standard features include leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, memory for the mirrors and driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a premium sound system with six-disc cd changer, trip computer, conversation mirror, mirror-mounted turn signals, power-adjustable pedals, and protective cladding for the lower body panels. The eddie bauer el 43,075) and eddie bauer el 4wd 45,970) are equipped, basically, like the standard-wheelbase versions.  options for eddie bauer models over and above those of the xlt include heated and cooled front seats 625), power running boards 995), a navigation system 1,995), second-row captain's chairs 795), and air suspension 485).  the expedition limited 42,660) and limited 4wd 45,560) add heated and cooled front seats, 10-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, universal garage-door opener, power rear quarter windows, and 255/70r18 tires on chrome alloy wheels. The limited el 45,310) and limited el 4wd 48,210) are equipped the same.  the expedition king ranch 45,190) and king ranch 4wd 48,090) have upgraded chaparral leather upholstery, king ranch badging, and gold exterior accents. The leather also trims the center console lid, steering wheel and door panels, while wood trim can be found on the center console, shifter handle and instrument panel. King ranch el 47,840) and king ranch 4wd el 50,740) have the same features.  safety equipment includes front airbags, torso-protecting front side airbags, three-row head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover deployment, tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake assist, and advancetrac electronic stability control with roll stability control. A rear obstacle detection system is standard on limited and king ranch, and optional on eddie bauer. Trailer sway control is standard. walkaroundthe ford expedition is a truck and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. This is a good identity to have, because ford trucks continue to have an outstanding reputation for utility, reliability and durability.  both the long and regular-length versions of the expedition use many of the components from the ford f-150 pickup. However, the expedition features independent rear suspension, which improves driving precision, ride comfort, and rear-seat roominess.  this third-generation expedition features a three-bar grille, large headlights, and a domed hood that combine to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. There are several different wheel designs, including 20-inchers with a chrome finish.  expedition el models stretch the wheelbase to 131 inches. Overall, the el measures 14. 8 inches longer than the standard expedition, and that adds 22 cubic feet of cargo volume. As a result, crowded parking lots can be challenging. The expedition has a turning circle of nearly 41 feet, while the el requires 44 feet.  they're also heavy, as even the base 2wd expedition weighs almost 6,000 pounds, and a loaded el with 4wd will be comfortably over that.  the king ranch model can be identified by its gold exterior accents and unique wheel design.  the expedition comes with running boards as standard equipment. Power retractable running boards that deploy when the doors are opened are optional. Some prefer no running boards, but that doesn't appear to be an option. interiorthe ford expedition features a rich blend of finishes, textures and color. Indeed, a king ranch is the best representation of modern american-style luxury within ford's lineup. Wood, chrome and leather make the expedition an inviting place to spend a day on the road. Leather-upholstered examples are available with a heating/cooling feature that makes them a more comfortable companion in winter and summer. Generous driver's-seat travel helps accommodate taller drivers, and it's a perfect match for the expedition's movable pedals, so a wide range of sizes of drivers can sit comfortably.  the second seating row reflects ford's thoughtful approach to passenger comfort: the standard 40/20/40 bench seat incorporates a center section that slides, bringing a child seat within easier reach of front-seat passengers. Optional second-row captain's chairs with a center-aisle pass-through can be substituted for adult-rated comfort.  packaging advantages afforded by the expedition's independent rear suspension enable the third-row seat to deliver more comfort for adults compared to the accommodations provided by the chevy tahoe. In fact, third-row room is among the best of any suv, though three adults won't want to sit in the back for long. The high ride height also makes getting in and out a task for children.  the expedition's liftgate with its flip-up glass hatch makes access to the cargo area very easy. The expedition's second- and third-row bench-type seats fold flat into the cargo floor, affording a long cargo area that can be easily loaded. In this regard, the expedition is much better designed than gm's large suvs. The expedition is also available with an optional power-folding third-row seat and electronically powered liftgate to make it even easier to load cargo. However, the seat cushions of the second- and third-row seats are a little slim in order to allow the seats to fold properly.  the expedition is about more than convenience. A dvd-based navigation system with sizable 6. 5-inch screen is available as an option. The rear-seat dvd entertainment system has an eight-inch screen that flips down from the headliner and also includes two sets of wireless headphones. A plug-in jack for an mp3 player is standard acro. 2013 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With more refinements for 2013, it keeps getting better. introductionthe 2013 ford mustang features a facelift and comes out bigger, bolder, cleaner. It's a change, not just a tweak. The 2013 mustang resembles a steve mcqueen bullitt mustang, its mouth shaped more like '70 mustang than a '65.  the mustang was redesigned for 2005 and got rave reviews for its looks, totally capturing the old mustang but still looking contemporary. The styling tweaks since then have made it even better, and that holds true for the 2013 mustang.  a black eggcrate grille opens wide over the bumper, with a clean and full chin, fascia, and air intakes, and just a tidy flat-black horizontal spoiler at the lip. The triangular rear window masterfully evokes the roofline of original '65 mustang, replacing its fake louvers with glass.  we're less enthusiastic about the interior of the 2013 mustang. Reviews all end up saying that the materials are okay considering the price of the car, remember it's only a mustang, and we can't argue. The steering wheel lacks imagination, and that's disappointing.  however the cloth seats are great; cloth can easily be a deal-breaker, and in the mustang it's not. In fact, the cloth seats fit better than the leather, maybe because they grip better. The optional recaro seats in either cloth or leather are excellent. There's good head and leg room up front, and visibility through the windshield is good, especially for a low-slung coupe. There's considerably more room and better visibility in the mustang than in the chevrolet camaro.  naturally, the two-passenger rear seat is no place for adults. Rear-seat headroom is limited by the rake of the coupe roof, and leg room is minimal, even with the front seats moved forward. That comes with the territory of such a car and its shape and is a small price to be paid for such proportions.  the retro instrument panel in the v6 and gt models clings too hard to the theme, we think. Having retro instrumentation on a car with modern performance like the mustang is like having a telephone with a cord. The optional shaker audio system is acoustically superb. Ford's sync system works well to choose music, but we had trouble operating it with voice commands.  the mustang convertible has a power fabric top and glass rear window. Trunk space in the convertible is reduced to 9. 6 cubic feet, from 13. 4 cubic feet in the coupe. It's a fairly high-revving engine, reaching its horsepower peak at 6500 rpm and its torque peak at 4250 rpm, so it's good to play with. And the manual comes with hill start assist, so no worries about coasting backward when starting off on a steep hill. The automatic, meanwhile, does have a manual-shift feature it's awkward to use.  the mustang v6 is epa-rated at 19/31 miles per gallon city/highway. However, we didn't get anywhere near that, running it hard on twisty two-lanes.  mustang gt has a smooth, rumbling and growling 5. 0-liter v8 engine. That's quicker than the chevrolet camaro ss, even with its huge 6. 2-liter engine and 426 horsepower. But the mustang is 230 pounds lighter, and that makes a big difference in acceleration, also handling.  the boss 302 makes 444 horsepower with the same engine. However the boss has non-retro instrumentation, that's way cleaner. And it's a boss 302.  brakes are good. Ford engineers have revised the braking system of the flex, taurus, and mustang, and the feel is powerful without being overly sensitive. The names of the modes are apt. Comfort mode kept the ride comfortable when driving over rough pavement, sport mode improved responsiveness on winding roads. We found the electronic stability control effective without being intrusive.  the 650-horsepower shelby gt 500 joins the 2013 mustang lineup. Also standard are a 2. 73 rear axle ratio, 17-inch aluminum wheels, electronic power steering, stainless steel dual exhaust, hid headlamps, led taillamps, capless fuel filler, manual air conditioning, tilt steering wheel with controls, cloth seats, and 50/50 rear folding seats (not convertible).  the v6 performance package includes a strut-tower brace, larger front sway bar and svt rear sway bar, stiffer front springs, upgraded brake calipers with performance pad, 19-inch painted aluminum wheels, 255/40r19 summer-only tires, higher stability control calibration, black side mirrors, 3. 31 rear axle, and unique engine cover (manual transmission only). There's also an equipment package 295) and tech package 1295). For the premium models, there's a comfort package and electronics package.  mustang gt models use a 5. 0-liter v8 making 420 horsepower and 390 foot-pounds of torque, with the same transmission selection, 3. 73 rear axle, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Equipment and options closely match the v6 packages. The premiums have reclining front bucket seats, a shaker audio system, and ambient lighting.  boss 302 uses a pumped-up version of that v8, with 444 hp and 380 foot-pounds, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Recaro cloth is optional, as is a laguna seca track package 6995).  shelby gt 500 coupe and convertible mean business with a 650-horsepower and 600-foot-pounds 5. 8-liter supercharged intercooled v8, mated to a tremec 6-speed manual transmission, with 6-piston brembo calipers on 14-inch front rotors. Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers, 3. 31 rear axle ratio, torsen differential, black-vented aluminum hood, gt 500 striping, and shelby cobra front fascia, splitter, and spoiler. Also creature comforts such as leather seats, ambient lighting, lcd message center, suede steering wheel, satellite radio. Extra oil coolers, aerodynamics, and 20-inch wheels.  safety equipment on all mustangs includes front and front side airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes, tire pressure monitor, and ford's mykey system, which allows car owners (parents) to limit the speed and sound system volume, when they hand the keys over to others (teenagers). walkaroundthe looks of the mustang keep evolving nicely. It was the best looking of the reborn retro machines when it was redesigned in 2005, and it's only gotten better looking since then.  for 2013, mustang gets another facelift, with a stronger and cleaner grille and front fascia, incorporating the air intakes and doing away with all the flat-black plastic from before. New hid projector-beam headlamps have two led streaks at their sides, a look that will take getting used to.  the sequential led taillamps are another matter, instantly pretty on the nice rear end that's true to '65 mustang. At the rear, there's new body-colored fascia on the 2013 mustang, again replacing flat black pieces (good riddance). Another improvement for 2013 is the loss of the flat-black rockers; they're now body-colored and grownup. And there are many new wheel designs for 2013.  overall, the 2013 mustang looks tougher and more mustangy than ever. The combination of open-mouthed grille and bulging hood gives the 2013 mustang muscular distinction. The gt boasts real black vents, in the bulging hood over its beefy 5. 0-liter v8. The chrome mustang galloping horse logo against the black eggcrate grille, on the base v6 model, also looks hot, and traditional. The foglamps go inside the grille like bookends on the silver horse, also just like 1965.  the sideview mirrors do something cool: when the unlock button on the remote is pressed, an image of a galloping horse in white led light appears on the ground like a spotlight on a stage.  the small triangular rear window is a stroke of design brilliance, and makes the roofline sleek. It's wonderfully and totally true to the 1965 mustang fastback, which used vertical fake louvers in that triangular roofline sweep.  the twin wide stripes on the 2013 shelby gt that's coming in summer of 2012 are classic. Some of the other graphics packages are dubious. Anti-lock Brakes✔ Bucket Seats✔ Air Conditioning✔ Leather Seats✔ Aluminum Wheels

2003 ford thunderbird review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Two seats, convertible top, rear-wheel drive, at times it feels like driving a vintage car, only it's brand new.  introduced as a 2002 model, the thunderbird has enjoyed solid sales, but there are important changes to this big-image car for 2003. The thunderbird has a great powertrain and this year there's more on tap: horsepower from the 3. 9-liter v8 has been increased to 280 and torque to 286 foot-pounds, 28 more horsepower and 25 more foot-pounds of torque than before. That means much stronger acceleration performance. Electronic throttle control and variable cam timing borrowed from the jaguar engine improve engine performance, power and fuel economy all at once.  also new for 2003 is an optional select shift transmission, which allows gear changes similar to a conventional manual transmission without a clutch pedal. All-speed traction control is now standard on all models, where last year it was only on the premium version. Two-speed, variable-interval wipers with a heated wiper parking area are also standard for 2003. A new saddle interior package includes full leather saddle seats, saddle leather steering wheel insert and a saddle leather shift knob. New exterior colors, mountain shadow gray and desert sky blue join two new interior colors: black ink and whisper white.  . lineupthunderbird comes in two trim levels: deluxe convertible 35,390) and premium convertible 36,390).  a hardtop is available with the trademark porthole. However, the hardtop must be ordered when ordering the car. The 007 edition will have a unique white leather interior and a distinctive coral paint scheme to match the thunderbird driven in the bond film 'die another day' by actress halle berry. The coral paint, similar to the sunset coral hue offered on the 1956 thunderbird, matches the bikini berry wears in her role as jinx. The 007 thunderbird will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of approximately $43,000.  . walkaroundthe new thunderbird features design aspects of the original 1955 car, the 1962 car, and some other, earlier thunderbirds, but ford doesn't talk about this car in terms of 'retro' design because it has so much modern equipment in it, on it and underneath it.  the exterior design is extremely smooth, to the eye at least, but the wind tunnel says it has a drag coefficient of 0. 38, which is quite high these days when a mercedes sedan cheats the wind with a rating of 0. 28.  the trunk is big enough, despite the small numbers (6. 9 cubic feet) to carry two golf bags, but that's about it. This car is made for what ford calls 'relaxed sportiness,' a term we translate into 'cruising.' it's sporty looking, it's rear-wheel drive, but it is not a sports car by any stretch of the imagination.  . interiortwo reasonably comfortable bucket seats are independently adjustable with power switches located on the side of the seat. But the bird is available with a set of red, yellow, or blue color accent packages for the interior, as described above. I liked the red, but did not care for the look of the plastic on the lower dash panel and door trim panels with the yellow or blue packages. But how it goes is just as important, and it does pretty well in this category. There's plenty of power to drive the rear wheels and the traction control ensures controlled acceleration.  the engine is a direct lift from the lincoln ls, with only a few modifications to make it fit in and under the car. It's a small v8, only 3. 9 liters, less than 240 cubic inches. Thunderbird's 240 cubic-inch v8 produces 280 horsepower, more than one horsepower per cubic inch. It burbles at idle like an old big-block engine, and that's part of the car's charm. If it weighed 500 pounds less, it would be quicker, but even with its mostly plastic body panels, the new t-bird weighs almost 3800 pounds, and it feels like it.  this is a comfortable cruiser on the interstate. A cross-car beam ties the structure together just behind the seats and three steel x-braces are bolted to the underbody in the front, middle, and in the rear. The result is a body structure and chassis with the strength and stiffness that helps provide good ride quality and handling. It isn't a sports car, however, and the suspension bobs when working out. Also, there is some cowl shake when driving over bumpy sections. Yes, there is body roll, but not much. It's well short of a real sports car, but it will cruise with anything out there.  now that the newness has worn off and there is more competition on the market, thunderbirds can be had for much more reasonable prices than in the crazy gotta-have-it-now first year of higher-than sticker sale prices. Ford is relying on the thunderbird to help recreate the company for its second hundred years.  . model lineupdeluxe convertible 35,390); premium convertible 36,390); deluxe with removable hard top 37,890); premium with removable hard top 38,890). assembled inwixom, michigan. opt.
